We are excited to announce that the roughly 2.5-mile loop trail that winds throughout Finch Brook Preserve has been officially incorporated into Connecticut’s Blue-blazed Hiking Trail System. The Trails Committee of the Connecticut Forest and Park Association (CFPA) met in Middlefield last week and voted to adopt the trail following a discussion with WLCT Vice President, Tom Tella.
Considerable labor and planning has been invested in blazing and maintaining trails and constructing bridges at Finch Brook Preserve over the past few years and we are proud of what we’ve managed to accomplish within just over 60 acres of woodlands. As the latest addition to the Blue-blazed Trail System in Wolcott, Finch Brook Preserve now enjoys company with the blue-blazed Mattatuck Trail in the north of town and the blue-blazed Tunxis Trail that meanders throughout the ridges of Southington Mountain on the eastern side of town. We are certainly looking forward to seeing Finch Brook Preserve in the next edition of the CFPA’s Walkbook.
We offer many thanks to WLCT’s own Tom Tella, who spearheaded much of the trail creation at Finch Brook Preserve. Of course, we are also grateful for all of the volunteers that have helped along the way and for the much-needed support of members throughout town.
